What is surveillance, it is watching someone, or some place in order to document and identify any contact with other people, activities, and whereabouts.
Why Do Surveillance?
Surveillance is conducted to prevent a crime, to obtain evidence, to document an individual's location, to document activities in a building, to obtain information for clients or courts.
What types of investigations require surveillance?
Cases involving a missing person, worker's compensation, cheating spouse, vandalism, and recurrent theft.
What are the different types of surveillance?
Private investigators have to decide which types of surveillance are best suited for the case. Some cases just require using cameras while others require a PI with a camera or other device. The client determines what equipment that has to be used.
Mobile vs. Stationary
Mobile investigations are where the investigator follows their subjects, either on foot or in a vehicle. Stationary investigation is staying in one location, watching the subject from a parked car, or sitting on a park bench.
Mechanical vs. Human
Mechanical investigation is the use of video cameras and other such equipment. Human investigation is a PI conducts the investigations so as to follow the suspect.
